La mulassa

There is evidence of a Mulassa in Vic in 1604. The guild of paraires in Vic was responsible for guarding and making this figure dance.

In the inventories of the guild's book, where it is mentioned, it says: “The Mulassa with its costume and cardboard head”. Surely this animal was entirely covered with cloth up to the head, and the whole body was probably made of wood.

In 2007, the Mulassa you see here on display was recovered and built, along with other elements of the procession.

Currently, the Mulassa is carried by the casteller group Sagals d’Osona. You can see it at the Festa Major and the Mercat del Ram.
